Sergey in Spain I

MADRID, THURSDAY
Sergey napping, me observing Father's Day picnickers and a man with a slide guitar [not pictured] the first day he arrived (Thursday) at Parque de Buen Retiro.

MADRID, FRIDAY
Inside the Museo del Biblioteca Nacional, extremely well done. They had videos of bookbinding and screenprinting.

Some beautiful book covers.

Grading papers at a cafe.

SEVILLA, SATURDAY
The cathedral in Sevilla, which we visited upon arrival. Of course, I forgot to look up the name of our hostal so we had to take a cab from the train station. But Sevilla was beautiful. This cathedral is the either the largest or third largest in Europe (depending on who you ask?) and it rivals the one in Toledo in it's beauty.

Christopher Columbus' tomb held up by giant pallbearers.

The amazing hand-carved wooden altar piece, which, according to our guidebook, was the life's work of a single man. That might be a direct quote.

The view from the Giralda, the tower of the cathedral, which was easy to climb because you walk up ramps as opposed to stairs so that horses could be ridden to the top. Below are orange trees which are all over Sevilla and smell amazing now that they are in bloom.

More of a view from the Giralda.

SEVILLA, SUNDAY
The moorish Alcazar. We got in for free! Hooray for being a "student!"

Amazing.

Sergey thinking about picking an orange from a tree in the Alcazar garden, which seemed really illegal. He succeeded in another more secluded part but with smaller, weirder oranges.

A peacock in the Alcazar garden.

Still to come: Barcelona, Logrono, and Bilbao.
